There are many benefits to making homemade toothpaste. It is a great way to save money and at the same time, you can limit waste caused by unnecessary packaging. It also makes you aware of the ingredients in your toothpaste so you can avoid artificial ingredients, sweeteners, and preservatives. With just a few simple ingredients, your own homemade toothpaste is as close as your kitchen!

What you’ll need:

· 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
· 2/3 cup baking soda
· 4 ounces hydrogen peroxide
· 15 drops flavored oil (cinnamon, peppermint, mint, etc.) recommended
· a bowl mix ingredients
· a spoon for mixing
· a jar or container with a tight lid
*Makes approximately 5 ounces of toothpaste.

Instructions
Before you begin, gather all of the ingredients. It is always a good idea to put a place mat or newspaper down on the table or counter to catch any spills. Start by mixing the baking soda and the sea salt in the bowl. Now slowly add the hydrogen peroxide to the mix – this will determine the toothpaste’s consistency. You control how thick your toothpaste will be. The last step is to add the oil of your choice for flavor while stirring the mixture.

Now that you have finished making your toothpaste, it is time store it. Make sure the jar or container has been cleaned thoroughly. Also, it is important that the lid closes tightly to prevent the toothpaste from drying out. Homemade toothpaste does not need to be refrigerated. You can place it where you would normally keep toothpaste. When ready to use, place a pea–sized amount on your toothbrush.
Next time you run out of toothpaste, have some fun and whip up a batch with the flavor of your choice!

*Baking soda contains large amounts of sodium.
